A man considered to be a “significant risk” to the community is being released from prison and will be living in Edmonton, police said on Thursday. Edmonton police issued the warning about 30-year-old Denzel Dre Colton Bird, who they say is a “violent sexual offender.” Bird was convicted in 2018 after admitting to attacking a 25-year-old woman he didn’t know, dragging her into an alley and sexually assaulting her. Police said they considered Bird’s privacy but decided after “careful deliberation” that it was within the public’s interest to let people know. Correctional Services Canada is overseeing Bird on Statutory release. He will be living at a designated approved facility and is bound by a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. Other conditions include: Edmonton police said the warning is so that community members can take precautionary measures; it said Edmontonians should not take any form of “vigilante action.”
