That’s a stark contrast from last year, when we had an average high of -1 C through the first 14 days of February. It’s also a long ways off the 10-year average of -7 C.

But, you don’t have to go THAT far back to find a couple years with even colder starts to February.

2019 had an average high of -19 C through the first 14 days of February and 2021 had an average high of -18 C.
So, as cold as it’s been these past two weeks, this is only the third-coldest start in the past 10 years.
In case you’re wondering, the warmest starts to February in the past decade are:
• 2016 with an average high of 2.3 C;
• 2023’s average high of 2.0 C; and
• 2024’s average high of -0.6 C.
Looking ahead, the cold spell will linger through the middle of next week. We’ll get back to around average by next Thursday (Feb. 20) and daytime highs are forecast to be around or above 0 C from Friday through to the end of the month.
