Here’s a look at some of the weather stories making headlines this past week.
Storm brings hail, tornadoes
Severe storms caused significant damage across parts of Nebraska.
Hail as large as softballs was reported with a few of the storms. In one town, video captured hailstones smashing through the windows of a hotel and destroying the windshields of vehicles parked outside.
Those severe thunderstorms also produced over a dozen tornadoes in Nebraska and Iowa. At least one of those tornadoes has been rated an EF-3 with estimated wind speeds well over 200 km/h. Numerous homes were damaged or destroyed.
Heavy rain in Italy
In Italy, heavy rain caused deadly flooding.
Emergency crews conducted hundreds of rescue missions and helicopter teams were sent out to help people stranded in flooded homes and vehicles.
