Feb. 6 would have been the 80th birthday of the late Bob Marley. As the world celebrates the legendary musician, CTV News unearthed a rare interview from 1978 with Sandie Rinaldo, who at the time was reporting for Canada AM.

Rinaldo sat down with the reggae artist when he performed at the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, and asked the Jamaican singer about his commitment to peace and misconceptions regarding his religious beliefs.

“I wouldn’t say that the Rastafarians have a bad reputation, I would say people give the Rastafarians a bad reputation,” Marley said. He also spoke on his craft and his willingness to give away all his money.

Marley, whose hits include No Woman, No Cry, Jamming, Buffalo Soldier and Three Little Birds, died in 1981 at the age of 36 as the result of a melanoma detected on his foot nearly four years earlier.
