A popular brand of chocolate bar is being recalled after a customer found it contained hazelnuts that were not declared on the wrapper.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirms Milka’s Bubbly Alpine Milk ‘Chocolat’ bars are being recalled due to the presence of the nut, a known allergen, that didn’t appear on the label.

While the ingredient list on the packaging did not include hazelnuts, a wrapper photo circulated by the CFIA shows the label indicated the product ‘May contain: peanuts, other tree nuts.’

The chocolate bars, sold in 90 gram packages, were available for sale in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

As of Jan. 16, there has been one report of someone having an allergic reaction after eating the chocolate. The CFIA confirms the recall notice was spurred by a consumer complaint.

CFIA officials say the chocolate bars are being removed from store shelves.

Anyone who purchased the chocolate bars is encouraged to throw them out or return them to the store for a refund.
