The Brantford Police Service is dealing with at least 52 reports of counterfeit currency.

According to a news release on Wednesday, fake bills have been used at various businesses throughout the city. Most of the bills were $100 or $50 denominations. Common serial numbers on the bills were GRJ6710018, GRJ6710019, GRJ6710020, GRJ6710020, GRJ6710021 and GRJ6710022.

Some of the fake money had the word ‘prop money’ printed in a holographic window strip.

Police said they have charged five people for using counterfeit cash, so far, in 2025.

In February, the Ontario Provincial Police reported fake money was used at a business in Burford. The community is a short drive from the City of Brantford.
