A 21-year-old man has been charged following a serious collision involving a horse and buggy in Wellesley Township last month, police said Saturday.

Waterloo Regional Police say their Traffic Services Unit laid a charge of careless driving against the local driver after investigating the crash, which took place on the morning of March 23.

Emergency crews responded to the area of Greenwood Hill Road near Hessen Strasse around 8:45 a.m., where a Hyundai vehicle had collided with a horse and buggy.

The buggy’s driver, a 14-year-old boy from Wellesley Township, was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The Hyundai driver was not physically injured.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has relevant dashcam footage to contact investigators at 519-570-9777, ext. 8856.
