A heartbreaker for the Guelph Storm Sunday afternoon, as the team lost Game 6 of their playoff series against the Sarnia Sting.

The team needed the win to push the series to Game 7 but it was not the comeback the Storm were hoping for.

After Game 3, Sarnia seemed unstoppable.

The Sting were leading the best-of-seven series 3-0, but Guelph turned the tables by winning both Game 4 and Game 5.

It almost looked like the Storm were going to pull off a comback on home ice Sunday.

Guelph got off to a promising start with Matthew Poitras getting the team’s first – and only – goal of the first period.

The Sting tied it in up in the second, with Sasha Pastujov scoring his first of two goals in the game.

Pastujov played for the Storm last season but was traded for Max Namestnikov.

Two minutes later, Guelph answered with goal by Namestnikov himself.

Sarnia tied things up once again with Ty Voit getting the Sting’s second point of the game.

The Storm and Sting both scored once more in the third period, with goals from Charlie Paquette and Pastujov’s second of the game.

The third period ended 3-3, pushing the match into overtime.

The game was decided at just 4:05 into play.

Nolan Burke, with an assist from Zach Filak, got the game-winning goal in the extra frame.

The Sarnia Sting bested the Storm with a 4-2 series lead, and will move onto round 2 of the OHL playoffs.

It's the first time the Sting have made it round 2 since 2018.

No word yet on who Sarnia will play or when those games will go ahead.
