Humane Society raising money for kitten in need of $7,500 eye surgery

A kitten at The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is hoping to receive $7,500 in order to have a double eye surgery.

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is trying to raise thousands of dollars to help a kitten who needs both his eyes removed.

Reginald, an eight-week-old cat, came to the Stratford Perth Animal Centre on May 21 as a stray after he was found in the gravel at the side of a road. At the time, he weighed less than a can of soup. His right eye had ruptured and he had almost no vision in his left eye.

Reginald has been in foster care since then, and endured weeks of medical treatment as veterinarians tried to save his left eye. However, the team decided his eye couldn’t be saved, and both would need to be removed to give him a chance at a pain-free life.

“Our priority now is his long-term health. Most patients like Reginald recover quite well,” said Marissa Crocker, a registered veterinary technician and clinic coordinator for the Humane Society. “Since Reginald’s sight has been limited for some time, we hope that adapting to no sight at all will go smoothly for him.”

His surgery is scheduled for June 29. As care costs could top $7,500, a fundraiser has been started. Any additional funds will help other animals in need.
