As the Kitchener Market’s building and food court remains closed following a fire last weekend, organizers are offering something a little different. An outdoor market will be held in the Breezeway on Saturday. While many of the vendors will be familiar faces to regular patrons, a full list of participants will be posted closer to that date. “While City of Kitchener staff continue recovery efforts inside the building, we are committed to finding ways to support vendors and maintain this important community tradition wherever possible,” a news release from the city said on Thursday. The release called the market an “important community gathering place” and stressed how important it is to farmers. “Now more than ever, our vendors need the community’s support. We encourage residents to come out, shop local and show their support for the farmers, makers and entrepreneurs who help make the Kitchener Market such a special place.” The fire started in a vendor’s stall around 1 a.m. Sunday. Foul play is not suspected and the total damage estimate comes in at $50,000.
