The Kitchener Rangers extended their playoff run with a 5-2 victory over the Windsor Spitfires on Friday night, staving off elimination in their Ontario Hockey League second-round playoff series.

Trent Swick and Christian Humphreys led the Rangers’ offense, each contributing three points.

Jack Pridham and Luca Romano also scored for the Rangers, who now trail the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal 3-2.

Kitchener took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Pridham’s fourth goal of the playoffs. The Rangers extended their lead in the second with goals from Swick and Humphreys before Ilya Protas got the Spitfires on the board. Romano restored Kitchener’s three-goal advantage late in the period.

Josef Eichler scored early in the third for Windsor to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Swick sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:02.

Jackson Parsons made 21 saves for the Rangers, while Windsor’s goaltender faced 23 shots. Neither team capitalized on the power play, with the Spitfires going 0-for-4 and the Rangers 0-for-5.

The Spitfires, who won the first three games of the series, will have another chance to close it out on the road.

Game 6 is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday at The Aud.
