Man charged after alleged weapon incident at Waterloo drive-thru

Waterloo Regional Police have charged a 36-year-old man following a weapons incident at a drive-thru restaurant in Waterloo.

Police said officers responded to reports of a man brandishing a firearm at a business on Erb Street West at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators allege the suspect approached a driver in a vehicle, displayed what appeared to be a firearm and demanded the driver exit the vehicle before fleeing the area.

Officers located and arrested the man nearby. Police said a firearm recovered at the time of arrest was later confirmed to be a replica.

No physical injuries were reported.

The accused faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, robbery with a firearm, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order.
