The vehicle of a York Region man has been seized indefinitely after Guelph Police said he was charged with impaired driving for the third time in less than a month. A Chevrolet pickup truck was seen driving “erratically” through the city on Saturday evening. The vehicle was found in a parking lot along Speedvale Avenue East and police said officers “watched a man walking unsteadily before getting into the driver’s seat.” They then blocked the truck in. When speaking to the driver, officers said they detected the strong odour of alcohol on his breath. The 23-year-old from Schomberg was arrested and taken to the police station where he repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample. “Investigation revealed the man was previously arrested for impaired driving on June 15 and July 2 and had his driver’s licence suspended both times,” police said in a media release. “Those matters are still before the courts.” For the incident on July 11, the man was charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, and failing to comply with an undertaking. “Officers seized his vehicle indefinitely to prevent further offences,” police said.
