One person arrested, 161 trucks put out of service during annual safety blitz

An annual commercial vehicle blitz led to over 150 trucks deemed unfit to drive as well as more than 300 charges laid, with the help of Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

In a social media post at 8:59 a.m., OPP said the 25th annual HRPS Commercial Motor Vehicle Blitz took place on Monday and Tuesday at the Woodbine Mohawk Park in Milton.

As a result of the blitz, 161 of the 517 trucks inspected were put out of service due to safety hazards. 316 charges were laid for defects and violations, with an additional 120 warnings.

Police also apprehended one unidentified driver who had an outstanding arrest warrant.

Wellington County OPP as well as 12 other police and ministry partners from across the province joined together to collaborate in the inspections, in order to improve road safety and make sure commercial trucks complied with specific road standards.
