Ottawa man arrested after Guelph woman loses thousands to investment scam

An Ottawa man has been charged after a Guelph woman lost more than $13,000 in an investment scam.

The Guelph Police Service said the then 19-year-old woman began speaking with a man after seeing a social media post last April. The two met up in-person in August and the man told her he bought and sold high-end watches. He invited the woman to invest in his work.

Over the course of two months, the woman transferred more than $13,000, but never saw a return on her investment. In December, a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest. He turned himself in on Thursday.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with fraud over $5,000.
