Pedestrian hit during picket at Waterloo Region airport, driver arrested

A driver has been charged after a pedestrian was hit near the Region of Waterloo International Airport.

Waterloo Regional Police were called to the area of Airport Road and Fountain Street North around 7:40 p.m. Monday.

They said a pedestrian who was part of a strike demonstration had been hit by a driver. Police said the driver was moving past picketers at the time.

No physical injuries were reported.

The driver was arrested for dangerous driving.

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees 1656 went on strike on Monday as they remained at odds with the Region of Waterloo during contract negotiations.

The union represents approximately 240 outdoor workers at the Region of Waterloo, including people who work in road maintenance, landfill services, airport services, clean water treatment services and emergency vehicle repair.
