A senior from Wellington County has lost $250,000 after they were targeted by an online scam.
Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the victim sent thousands of dollars to someone they met online starting in February 2024.
Over several months, the senior was told to go to local businesses and buy gift cards. The senior would then give the numbers on the cards to the scammer.
The victim eventually began to suspect something was amiss and reported the incidents to police.
The OPP are looking for any tips regarding the case and warn the public to stay vigilant to reduce the likelihood of falling victim to a scam.
