Winter businesses in Waterloo Region are hoping for a March break boost.
Chicopee Ski & Summer Resort was busy on Monday morning with families taking advantage of the snowy but sunny weather.
“Just make sure you put your sunscreen on,” advised CEO Bill Creighton. “This is a bluebird day. It doesn’t get any better than this.”
Young skiers seemed to agree.
“It’s actually really warm,” said Nora Knudsen. “I don’t really feel cold. It’s just feels like spring.”
Despite the mild conditions, Creighton said there was still time to get in some runs this season, especially for any beginners.
“The snow is fantastic. It’s actually softer and easier to move on.”
But Creighton believes it could be the last week the slopes are open.
“We’d like to stay longer,” he said. “We’ll call it as we go.”
Chicopee Tube Park, on the other side of the hill, is also seeing more families enjoy the holiday break.
“We’ve been sold out every weekend up until now, and this is kind of where the end of the season happens,” explained facility supervisor Evan Khamphoumy.
As of Monday, the snow was between three and eight feet deep in the tube park.
They’re also keep a close eye on the weather before deciding on a closing date.
“It’s been going fairly well,” Khamphoumy said. “You couldn’t ask for anything better. We’ve had just amazing weather. It’s been cold. Lots of snow. We haven’t had to make any snow since 2024.”
