People living near Waterloo Region’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) line got a bit of a light show as an ice storm rolled across the province.
A video sent to CTV News Kitchener shows bright flashes of light sparking from the LRT wire over the weekend.
“During inclement weather it’s not uncommon for there to be a flash of light or sparks as a train passes. Safety measures are in place to ensure there is no risk to customers,” an email from the Region of Waterloo said.
The ice build-up along the wires disrupted LRT service for approximately eight hours between 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. Replacement buses were offered while the wires were cleared.
