An Oakville man has been arrested after a Guelph bank robbery this week and police say he is alleged to have committed more than a dozen others in several different jurisdictions.

Police were called to a bank near Stone Road West and Scottsdale Drive after 4 p.m. Monday. Guelph police said a man approached a teller and demanded cash after removing a large knife from a reusable shopping bag. He fled after being given a small amount of cash. No employees or customers in the bank were physically injured, according to police.

Police believe the same suspect robbed 14 banks and two retail businesses between Feb. 8 and Feb. 25. The other robberies were in Toronto, Hamilton, Peel, Halton and Niagara regions.

Guelph Police worked with other jurisdictions to identify a suspect who was arrested by Toronto Police on Wednesday.

A quantity of cash was recovered during the arrest.

A 52-year-old man is charged with several counts, each of robbery with a weapon and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence. He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigations are ongoing in a number of jurisdictions.
