Man steals from store, assaults employee: Guelph Police

Guelph Police say a man has been charged with assaulting a mall employee who was trying to stop him from stealing.

An employee at Stone Road Mall told officers she saw a man placing several unnamed items into a large bag around 6:20 p.m. Thursday. When he left the store without attempting to pay, police said she followed him and asked him to return the items. The man allegedly threatened her and pushed her in order to leave the mall.

He was followed by a second employee who was on the phone with police.

Police found the man nearby with 19 stolen items which were returned.

The 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000, assault and uttering threats.
