Store clerk in Guelph threatened for refusing to sell beer

A man has been charged after a store clerk said they were threatened for refusing to sell beer.

The Guelph Police Service said a man in an Uber went to a business on Speedvale Avenue East just after 2 a.m. Thursday. The man tried to buy three cans of beer, but the clerk told him they couldn’t sell beer due to the time.

Police said the man left the store, but came back and asked if the clerk would sell him beer if he had a gun pointed at him.

The clerk said the man had his hands in his pockets at the time and was fidgeting. The clerk believed the man had a gun. He picked up the phone to call police and the man grabbed six more beers and left the store.

Police caught up with the suspect a short time later and arrested him.

A 25-year-old Guelph man has been charged with robbery and disobeying a court order.
