A Guelph man is facing three counts of assaulting police after two separate incidents on Wednesday.

Guelph Police Service officers were called to the Woolwich Street and Cardigan Street area around 3:30 p.m. to help employees of a group home get a resident into a vehicle.

Police said the man resisted and spat in an officer’s face.

The man was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.

Just after 9 p.m., officers went back to the group home to formally charge the man with assaulting a police officer. They said he became upset and pulled the fire alarm before charging at two officers and swinging his fists at them.

A 23-year-old Guelph man has been charged with three counts of assaulting police and making a false alarm of fire.
