Five OPP vehicles were struck by people driving around road closed signs Saturday night in southwestern Ontario.
“When you see a road closed sign, it’s there for a reason,” Sgt. Sanchuk said in a message on social media.
“Five OPP cruisers have been struck from behind by motorists who have gone around road closed signs in white-out conditions and have struck those vehicles.”
He said he was not aware of any injuries, but added the incidents happened in Huron County, Perth, South Bruce, and Middlesex County.
He stressed that there was dangerous driving conditions Saturday around the region, and asked people to stay off the roads if possible.
“We are having individuals putting themselves at unnecessary risk, which then puts officers and first responders in jeopardy to go to rescue them as well,” said Sanchuk.
“You should not be going around the road closed sign. People need to realize that if you do go around a road closed sign your insurance will more than likely not cover you for any damages to your vehicle or any property. Do not go around that sign.”
Many roads were closed due to snow Saturday, however a number of them have re-opened by Sunday morning.
