Alleged robber arrested after assaulting police officer and loss prevention officer

A London man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting officers and robbing a business.

The man entered a business in the area of Baseline Road and Wharncliffe Road South on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Police say he proceeded to select items from shelves and conceal them inside a bag.

The man selected additional items, walked to the payment area and paid for the property in his hands.

A loss prevention officer observed the man conceal the unpaid items, and when he proceeded to leave the store, he approached the suspect male and asked him to pay for the unpaid property.

Police say the suspect assaulted the loss prevention officer and fled from the store on foot without paying.

Police were contacted and attended the area, locating the suspect nearby.

Officers say when they told the suspect that he was under arrest, he resisted police and assaulted an officer.

A search yielded the stolen items.

There were no reported injuries.

As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old London man has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery;
  • Assault a peace officer; and
  • Resist arrest.

The accused remains in custody and is expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charges.
