A man widely considered as one of the most dominant boxers in history is coming to London, Ont. in a co-promotion with Boomerz Boxing Club. Roy Jones Jr. is partnering with Jouda Promotions for the Nightmare on York Street on May 15, 2027, at RBC Place. “We’re going to be hosting a pro show in London, Ontario with boxing legend Roy Jones Junior,” said Matt Boom of Boomerz Boxing Club. “Headlining will be our pro fighter Natasha ‘The Nightmare’ Spence. The night will be called the Nightmare on York Street.” Matt Boom and Abdul Jouda first met Jones Jr. when Spence was fighting for his promotion in the U.S. “Roy was my dad’s favorite fighter, and we were in Washington where Natasha was fighting for a title,” said Boom. “We’re hanging out with Roy Jones right there, and I just mentioned it to him and said, ‘Hey, Natasha’s been flying all over the world coming in on the B side. We’d love to have a local fight with her being the hometown hero and have you come out with us.’ He told us to put it together and let him know, so we did.” Spence is the WBA International Middleweight Champ. She has won four fights in a row and is the number two contender in the world behind Claressa Shields.Even after nearly two years of knowing Jones, she can’t believe he’s coming to her hometown. “I’m grateful, but it still feels like a dream,” said Spence. “From the moment I met him, to having phone calls with him and texting him, and seeing his name pop up on my phone, it still doesn’t even feel real to me.” Spence is still waiting for that crack at Shields who has a professional record of 19–0 with four knockouts. “We’re looking to match with Claressa,” said Spence. “The calls went out; emails have gone out to Salita promotions. I’m ranked number two by the WBA, right in the running to be next in line for her. When she gets back to the gym and starts focusing on boxing again, maybe she’ll check her emails and maybe they’ll answer the call? The show must go on, but I believe in my team, and I believe in my training. Whatever they put in front of me in May, it’s going to be fireworks.” Jouda calls this partnership a “dream come true.” “Two legends, two superheroes,” said Jouda. “Roy Jones Jr. is a legend, and I’ve got my own legend in Natasha Spence. London is a fight city, and we are we’re going to continue to pour gas on the fire and continue to feel that right here in London, Ont.” The venue at RBC Place will seat about 1,500 people and main sponsors will get a chance to meet Jones Jr. prior to the show. “It’s going to be our biggest show ever,” said Jouda. “We’re investing so much time and energy reaching out to people to fight Natasha. She’s going to be hard to match, and we’ve asked 100-plus fighters already and nobody’s answered the phone call yet, and that’s why we call her ‘The Nightmare’.” Jouda says the card will be full of up-and-coming fighters from around the world and a few that have names for themselves from the Toronto area. “They’re going to come down and fight in front of Roy Jones Jr. in the Forest City,” said Jouda with a smile.
