Community Living London (CLL) held it’s 33rd annual Night of Heroes Fashion show Thursday night.
The inspiring evening celebrated achievements of people supported by the organization, along with community heroes who made a lasting impact.
“It’s an opportunity for us to highlight community heroes, as well as link them up with people that we provide support to and their heroic adventures as well,” said CLL Executive Director Michelle Palmer.
CLL provides support to people who have a developmental disability from all ages, helping with any assistance they need throughout their life.
“Whether it be residential supports, employment supports, just getting connected to their communities through community participation supports, we have family support for young families who’ve just started to face the challenges of having a child with a disability,” explained Palmer.
Palmer says most of CLL’s funding comes from Community and Social Services, but funding has fallen behind.
“So right now, we’re part of a provincial campaign called Waiting to Belong, there’s 32,000 people waiting for services in the province of Ontario,” said Palmer.
The event’s goal was to raise $150,000 to purchase an accessible vehicle.
“It’ll allow people who require wheelchairs for mobility to have easier access to their community and more spontaneous access to their community, rather than booking a paratransit three or four days in advance,” said Palmer.
