A Crown witness continued to hold their ground and tell a murder trial jury that he and his friend had nothing to do with the death of 59-year-old Grant Norton.

Under cross-examination from defence lawyer Mary Cremer, the court has heard that the witness was at the apartment of the accused Ashley Bourget in July of 2020 when Norton, a well-known drug dealer, was tied and beaten.

Cremer accused the witness of lying to protect his friend who she alleged was trying to rob Norton of a large quantity of cash, and they responded, “Not true, I didn’t see no money, no nothing.”

She asked the witness, “You’re having a hard time keeping your lies straight?”

The witness responded, “No.”

Norton would eventually be found stuffed in a large plastic barrel down a ravine by the Thames River in the area of Jacqueline and Ada Streets, not farm from the apartment of the accused on Adelaide Street South.

The 40-year-old Bourget has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

The Crown’s case and the trial resume next week.
