Funnel clouds possible in London and surrounding areas

A special weather statement is in effect for Chatham-Kent, London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, and Lambton County.

According to Environment Canada, conditions are favourable for funnel clouds to develop Saturday afternoon. Winds could reach up to 70km/h.

The weather agency says the type of funnel clouds are not likely to be a danger near the ground, but there’s a chance it could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

While it says landspout tornadoes don’t typically cause significant damage, they can still be dangerous as they can be strong enough to cause trees to fall, damage roofs, or toss debris.

Sunday: Mainly sunny, high 25 C. Humidex 26 C.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy, becoming cloudy near midnight. Periods of rain beginning overnight. Low 14 C.

Monday: Periods of rain. High 21 C.
