Jan. 27 marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
Here in London, the day was marked with remembrance and commemorations.
At Hyland Cinema, Jewish London and Huron university unveiled a banner in remembrance of the late Holocaust survivor Louie Kamien, who was one of 100 or so who made their home in London. H
This was part of a 25-year tradition where Jewish London annually adds a banner that tells the story of a Holocaust survivor to the Voices of Survivors project.

The unveiling was followed b y a screening of the film The Commandant’s Shadow, which is a documentary showing the meeting of a Holocaust survivor and the child of an Auschwitz war criminal.
Additionally, several buildings in downtown London were lit up in yellow in remembrance.
This was part of a national movement which visibly commemorated the six million people murdered in the Holocaust.
Officials with Jewish London say, with the troubling rise of antisemitism, remembering the Holocaust is as important now as it’s ever been.
