The jury at the manslaughter trial of a London woman charged in connection with the death of her mother in July of 2021, viewed forensic photos of the accused and a police interview conducted just hours after the incident.
The photos showed cuts, bruises and dried blood on the body of the accused, Barbara Cabala, 43 who has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.
London Police Service forensic officer Jeni Reynolds testified, “I know there was a lot of dry blood…there was a cut that required stitches.”
During the lengthy interview, she is heard telling Det. Const. Blair Gould that she and her mother were at odds saying, “We never got along…she’s crazy.”
Court heard, Cabala told the officer that she and her mother became distant after her parents split up and that she only moved back because she needed a place to stay after breaking up with her longtime partner.
In the summer of 2021 emergency crews were called out to a Wilkins Street townhouse and found Cabala’s 59-year-old mother Elzbieta without vital signs. She was later be pronounced dead.
The trial is now into its second week and resumes on Tuesday.
