Kincardine is marking a million-dollar milestone. The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has raised $10 million towards its “Building Health Care for Generations” campaign.

The money is being used to give the Kincardine hospital its first expansion in 35 years. A brand-new emergency department and MRI machine and medical imaging department are the two highlights of the redevelopment plan.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to this campaign so far,” said Becky Fair, foundation president. “Reaching the $10 million mark as we start our third year of the campaign is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our community. We are confident that, with continued support, we will achieve our goal and enhance health care services for generations to come.”

While $10 million is a great hurdle to overcome, there’s $8 million more needed to pay for the $18 million project.

“There is a misconception that the local community does not need to contribute to the cost of a hospital expansion or equipment,” said Campaign Co-Chair Graham Mahood. “In reality, the local community must raise 100 per cent of equipment costs and 10 per cent of the construction cost of an expansion project,” he said.

The expansion will double the footprint of the critical services offered at the Kincardine hospital, said foundation officials.
