London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) hosted its first community update meeting of the new year on Wednesday.

It included an update from staff on a variety of topics, including the current cold and flu season.

Officials say right now cases are peaking, typical for this time of year.

“This is a normal variation, and what we see throughout the year when we’re in what people refer to as respiratory season. And when I anticipate we’ll see is lots of respiratory illness. As we’ve all heard, gastrointestinal illness is circulating as well, and with the extreme cold temperatures we’ve had over the past couple of days, we’ll likely see, some cold related injuries that we wouldn’t see most times of the year.” Said LHSC Vice President of Medical and Academic affairs, Dr. Adam Dukelow.

LHSC says the community update meetings are to serve as a platform to keep the public informed about what’s happening within the organization, share updates on new initiatives, and outline the steps being taken to deliver excellent care.
