Residents asked to shelter in place during police standoff in east London

The London Police Service (LPS) have taken two people into custody following a standoff in east London on Saturday morning.

Officers blocked off Cleveland Ave. and residents around Barberry Court were asked to stay indoors.

A supervisor on scene told CTV News they were conducting an active investigation and due to potential danger, no media, pedestrians, or cars were permitted to pass between Vinewood Court and Kimberley Ave.

According to a neighbour who spoke to CTV News anonymously, the tactical team was on site with riot gear and LPS used a loudspeaker asking a resident of Barberry Ct. to come outside.

They say LPS also asked people to go into their basement and take cover.

He told CTV that two men exited house number 15 and were taken away in handcuffs, a woman also was escorted by police.

The neighbour added that he’s been a resident of the area for 10 years, and this is not the first time police have been to the residence.

Police have since cleared out of the area, but have not yet confirmed if any charges have been laid.
