Sarnia police say that they responded to a shooting on Tuesday, resulting in charges for five people.
According to police, just after 5:00 p.m., a call to emergency services drew police to an address on White Circle in Aamjiwnaang First Nation for a reported shooting.
Five people were arrested on firearms offences, and provided aid to a 29-year-old man who had been shot through his left leg, breaking his femur before continuing on to his right leg. The man was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to London Health Sciences where he remains in care.
Police believe that the injury was sustained as the result of an accidental firearm discharge.
Four of the people arrested have since been released from police custody and charged, however a 32-year-old remains in police custody. He faces the following charges:
- Careless use of a firearm
- Pointing a firearm
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Fail to comply with a release order
- Fail to comply with probation (2 counts)
Officers were still on scene on Wednesday morning as the investigation continued.
