Tap dancer from St. Marys, Ont. represents Team Canada at World Tap Dance Championship

CTV’s Lauren Stallone speaks with a young St. Marys girl who took part in the World Tap Championships in Prague last month.

Fresh off representing Team Canada in Prague at the World Tap Dance Championship, St. Marys’ Pierce Macneil is feeling grateful and hoping to do it all over again next year.

“It was a great feeling,” said Pierce. “I really liked it.”

She said it was a great experience to compete on one of the world’s biggest stages, against nearly 2,000 other dancers.

“There’s 21 countries and people from all over the world,” explained Pierce.

She says she first started dance class at the age of two and tap at the age of four, something she credits to her mother Stacey Macneil.

“We first started with a mom and me class from a very young age,” said Stacey. “Right when she could walk, she loved music.”

Stacey said it was a dream come true to watch her daughter represent Team Canada.

“Seeing her confidence grow, seeing her stage performance elevate to the next level,” said Stacey. “We just can’t wait to see her on the stage this year at competitions.”

Macneil competed in four different events including a production number, formation, trio, and small group number.

She says the championship has only made her love of tap grow stronger and she isn’t ready to stop now.

“I have a feeling this probably won’t be a one-time thing for her,” said Stacey.
