Officials in South Bruce Peninsula are warning residents of a scam making the rounds.

Some people have reported getting phone calls claiming to be from the South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, asking for $500 donations via credit card or e-transfer.

The South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department does not solicit donations by phone and said it would never ask residents for money in this way, adding that fundraising efforts have only ever involved partnerships with local community businesses.

OPP have been notified of the scam and residents are reminded if they get such a call, do not provide any personal or financial information.

Any incidents of fraud can be reported to the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122 or online to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
