On Dec. 18, 2024, the Multi-Organ Transplant Program (MOTP) at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) reached a significant milestone. More than 7,000 transplants have been performed since the program’s official inception in 1972.
“Our program has long been internationally recognized as a leading centre for transplantation,” said Dr. Dave Nagpal, medical co-director of LHSC’s MOTP. “Taking a moment to reflect on the fact that we have now transformed the lives of an incredible number of patients and families is important to us. It is an opportunity to honour the incredible work our teams are currently doing, as well as acknowledge the generosity of those donors and their families who made these gifts of life possible.”
According to LHSC, the program completes about 200 transplants each year, including kidney, liver, heart, kidney-pancreas, pancreas, and multi-organ transplantation.
As of Dec. 31, 2024, LHSC has performed 7,019 transplants.
