The Sarnia Police Service has arrested two people following a theft in the city.

On Thursday around 3:30 p.m., police were called to a grocery store near Indian Road and Exmouth Street for a theft in progress.

Police said a man was seen stealing several packages of meat. A loss prevention officer attempted an arrest as the suspect left the building, but arrest was resisted. Officers said the suspect allegedly became violent and threatened to kill the officer.

Some members of the SPS were in the parking lot of the grocery store for an unrelated manner, when they heard the radio call and saw the suspect running to a vehicle.

Officers went up to the vehicle and ordered the woman who was driving and the man to get out. They allegedly refused to comply, trying to leave. The SPS said officers broke through the windows out of a safety precaution for those in the parking lot, preventing the vehicle from leaving.

A 36-year-old Oneida Nation of the Thames man has been charged with robbery, uttering threats, and failure to comply with release conditions.

A 44-year-old Morivan First Nation woman was charged with robbery related charges.
