Police say two people have been charged in connection to an ongoing investigation into a series of suspicious fires.
On Sunday, around 10:35 p.m., OPP officers along with Haldimand County firefighters, responded to a fire engulfing a vacant barn on Lynn Valley Road in Haldimand County. No injuries were reported.
About 15 minutes later, police stopped a pickup truck on Concession 12 Townsend in Norfolk County. That vehicle matched the description of a vehicle spotted near a suspicious fire that occurred in November 2024.
The driver and passenger were taken into custody and have been determined by police to be the individuals involved in multiple arson investigations throughout Norfolk County between November 2024 and January 2025.
Matthew Smith, 30, has been charged with 11 counts of arson and fail to comply with probation order.
Chad Reimer, 43, has also been charged with 11 counts of arson, as well as operation while impaired (80 plus).
Smith and Reimer remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Updates will be provided as they become available.
