Windsor Spitfires take home a Friday night win

The Windsor Spitfires scored early and often against the visiting Sarnia Sting on the way to a 7-2 win Friday night.

It was Jack Nesbitt who would open the scoring with his 18th of the season on the power play, assisted by Liam Greentree and Ethan Belchetz just 2:05 into the first period.

Less than 20 seconds later, Carter Hicks would add to the tally to make it 2-0.

Ethan Belchetz rounded out the first period scoring with his 14th of the season, which proved to be the eventual game winner.

The Spits would take a 5-0 lead in the 2nd period, through a Noah Morneau short-handed goal and Belchetz’s second of the night, before the Sting struck back with a pair of their own.

The sin bin was part of the story as well, with Sarnia incurring 10 minor and one major penalty to the Spitfires’ 8 infractions.

Meanwhile, Greentree was given a 10-minute misconduct following a fight with JJ Franceschetti near the end of the 1st period.

Belchetz was also give a 5 minute match penalty for a slew foot.

Ryan Abraham would score his 18th of the season in the 3rd period and Morneau would match that tally with his second of the night on the power play.

The Spitfires are back in action at the WFCU on Saturday night, hosting the Brantford Bulldogs for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
