One person is dead and several others are injured after a collision in Saint-Rémi in the Montérégie region.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) received a 911 call at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday about a crash between a minibus and an SUV on rang Notre-Dame, also known as Route 209.

“According to initial reports, the minibus, travelling southbound with around ten passengers on board, swerved out of its lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle,” the SQ notes.

Police say slippery weather conditions may have played a role in the crash.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SQ notes seven others were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries, and the lives of two people are considered to be in danger.

A section of the road remains completely closed to traffic to allow investigators to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision.
