A 48-year-old man who was in critical condition on Sunday morning after a dispute with his roommate turned into an alleged assault with a weapon is finally out of danger.
Police were called to a dwelling on Bélanger Street, near Pie-IX Boulevard, at around 2:30 a.m. for a possibly injured person, said Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.
Arriving on the scene, they located the victim with a sharp object wound to the upper body. Conscious, the man was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The suspect was arrested near the scene of the attack. The 52-year-old man was also injured and taken to hospital, where his life is not believed to be in danger. He will be interviewed by investigators later in the day.
According to initial reports, the dispute between the two men escalated in an apartment. The circumstances surrounding the attack are still unknown.
A security perimeter has been set up to allow investigators and forensic identification technicians to shed light on the events.
The canine unit has also been called to the scene to search for evidence. At least one witness has already been interviewed by the police.
