Four minors and an 18-year-old were arrested and the Montreal police (SPVM) arson squad is investigating after a “major fire” in Hochelaga.

At around 1 a.m., police received a 911 call about a fire at a garage on Lacordaire Street near Hochelaga Street.

Nearby buildings required evacuations and about 10 people were forced from their homes.

“Five arrests were made by the Montreal police department,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

An 18-year-old man and the four minors were arrested near the scene and transported to a detention centre.

“Firemen located traces of accelerate which leads to believe that there was an arson,” said Brabant.

As of Sunday morning, firefighters were quelling the remnants of the fire and Hochelaga Street was closed near the fire.

There were no injuries reported.
