Black Forest ham sandwiches that were sold in Quebec by Cuisine Fraîcheur Urbaine are being recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall for sandwiches with a best before date of April 16, 2025 (size 179 g, UPC: 0 639725 401603).

The agency is asking that people who bought the products abstain from consuming, using, selling, serving or distributing them.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

“Food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick,” the CFIA notes. “Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.”

The agency notes that pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

“Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth,” the CFIA adds. “In severe cases of illness, people may die.”

The recall was triggered by CFIA test results, and there have been no reported illnesses.

“The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products,” it states. “The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.”

Anyone who thinks they may have become sick from consuming a recalled product is encouraged to contact a health care provider.
