The Montreal Canadians made the playoffs – and one fan made a memory she will never forget.
Gatineau-based Lucie Lachance swapped jerseys on the ice with one of her idols, Canadians forward Brendan Gallagher on Wednesday night.
The exchange came after Lachance reached out to Gallagher on X in March, offering him a purple and white Hockey Fights Cancer jersey that the Habs player wore at the Bell Centre in 2022.
On the jersey’s “I Fight For” label, Gallagher had written the word “Mom” in tribute to his mother.
Instead of accepting the offer, Lachance said Gallagher suggested they do a jersey swap, offering her the one he wore during Wednesday’s game in return.
“It was so emotional because first of all, we just clinched for the playoffs. So, you could tell that the people were all excited. And then when I saw the players, I knew a big moment was about to happen,” Lachance explained.
“I couldn’t measure what I got yesterday. It was so emotional, I think, for both of us. I loved the experience and felt so good.”
Last month, Gallagher announced that his mother, Della Gallagher, had died after a long battle with brain cancer.
