An 80-year-old woman died on Saturday night after crashing into a lamppost at high speeds in the Saint Leonard borough.
Montreal police (SPVM) said that a call at 7:15 p.m. reported a collision on Lacordaire Boulevard at Jarry Street.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the woman outside of her vehicle on the ground unconscious and began performing CPR.
“She was in critical condition but then unfortunately she died from her injuries,” said SPVM spokesperson Veronique Dubuc.
Dubuc said initial information obtained at the scene suggests the woman was travelling north on Lacordaire at high speeds when she lost control of the vehicle and struck the lamppost.
Police are analyzing different hypotheses to determine the causes and circumstances leading to the crash.
Alcohol is not one of those theories.
No one else was injured in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
