Quebec’s Transport Minister (MTQ) announced that a fourth lane will once again open on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge on April 28.

Once the lane is opened, two lanes will be accessible in each direction on the heavily trafficked artery.

However, the bridge will be completely closed on the weekend (April 25-28) to reconfigure the traffic lanes, the MTQ said in a news release.

All work could be postponed or cancelled due to weather.

The MTQ said “it is too early” to say when a fifth traffic lane will reopen.

“The ministry is doing everything possible to reopen a fifth lane on the bridge as quickly as possible,” it said. “However, carrying out work on the structure is complex, and the ministry will never compromise the safety of bridge users.”

Also, on April 28, the speed limit will increase from 60 km/h to 70 km/h.

Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from driving in the left lane in either direction.
