A major fire broke out at an industrial site in Contrecoeur, east of Montreal, on Sunday morning.
According to information on the town’s Facebook page, the fire broke out in a pile of scrapped cars around 4 a.m. at the ArcelorMittal steel production company.
Local and neighbouring fire departments were called to help quell the blaze that sent billowing black clouds of smoke into the area.

The municipality said no buildings needed to be evacuated, but that the city was on alert “closely monitoring the evolution of atmospheric conditions, including the direction of the winds.”
At around 10:30 a.m., the municipality said that the fire spread was “significantly reduced” and that the air quality did not “demonstrate dangerous toxicity to Contrecoeur.”
No one was injured.
