A Montreal man has been charged after he allegedly broke into three homes in the span of about 20 minutes on Tuesday evening and assaulted the occupants.

In one case, he allegedly sexually assaulted a female occupant, who managed to escape. He is also accused of trying to strangle a woman in another break-in.

All three homes were within a few blocks of each other near the intersection of Saint-Antoine Boulevard West and Atwater Avenue in Montreal’s Saint-Henri neighbourhood.

The suspect was quickly arrested after fleeing the scene on Saint-Antoine.

Kofikale Ashley, a 41-year-old Saint-Henri resident, has been charged with breaking and entering, forcible confinement, sexual assault, and strangulation.

Police say he remains in custody pending a bail hearing in the coming days.
